The Fiddler and His Art

Strathspeys, reels, slow airs, marches, waltzes and jigs from five different regions of Scotland.

Played by stalwarts Hugh Inkster, Pat Shearer, Andrew Polson, Albert Stewart, Donald MacDonell and Hector MacAndrew - all greatly admired in their day.

It is an acknowledged fact that styles of Scottish fiddle playing at one time varied quite markedly from region to region, although that is less obvious today. This album amply highlights the various Scottish styles of years past.

The Scottish Tradition Series consists of a selection of material previously held in the School of Scottish Studies Archives at the University of Edinburgh. The widely acclaimed collection is quite unique, and has been regarded as “the most important series of traditional recordings ever…”.
