Scots Trad Music Awards 2009
The annual Scots Trad Music Awards were held in Dumfries late in November and it turned out to be a very special night, recorded by MG Alba TV. Greentrax award winners included Mairearad Green, a member of The Poozies (Composer Of The Year), Bodega (Scottish Folk Band Of The Year), The Paul McKenna Band (Up And Coming Artist Of The Year) as well as Hall Of Fame 2009 entrants Sheena Wellington and Dick Gaughan. Also of interest to Greentrax, The Haddington Pipe Band won Scottish Pipe Band Of The Year and Ian Duncan won Music Tutor Of The Year. Close business associate and friend Dr John Barrow was presented with The Hamish Henderson Services To Traditional Music Award. We at Greentrax were particularly pleased to see the recently discontinued BBC Radio Scotland programme The Reel Blend win the Media Award - not only that, but when presenter Robbie Shepherd and producer Jennifer Forrest went on stage to collect the award, they received a standing ovation from the 1,000 in attendance…
