Lifetime Achievement Award for Dick Gaughan
On 1st February, Dick Gaughan was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ceremony in London. He received his award from Neil Finn of the band Crowded House, who apparently had flown from New Zealand just to do this! This was quite a glittering event, full of celebs, journalists, performers, club, concert, arts centre, and festival organisers, a veritable gamut of British folk and roots music - British because of course this event is organised by the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Folk On Two radio programme, hosted by Mike Harding. You can listen to the whole event on Radio 2, Thursday 4th February, 7 - 8:30pm. See other award winners here. Dick Gaughan is the only performer to be similarly honoured both in Scotland and south of the Border. He adds this new award to being inducted into the Scots Trad Music Awards Hall of Fame in December 2009. Now, that is remarkable!
