Barbara Dickson OBE signs to Greentrax

Article posted by Kenny (admin) on February 24th 2010:

Greentrax is delighted to announce that Barbara Dickson has signed a contract for the label, and will record a new album for release in the Autumn (date to be announced). Barbara will be yet another high profile artist to join Greentrax and once again completes a circle - June and Ian Green enjoyed Barbara’s folk club gigs in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, and met her socially when she lived in Edinburgh. Ian has followed her spectacular singing and acting career, and most of Barbara’s albums are in his personal collection. He highly recommends Barbara’s autobiography A Shirt Box Full Of Songs, recently published in hardback (see barbaradickson.net). Welcome to Greentrax, Barbara, we are delighted to have you on board!

Fantastic news! Barbara Dickson is one of the great singers - and over the past five years, with her return to folk/roots and her collaboration with Troy Donockley, she is making some of the best music of her long career. Few artists have done more than Dickson to introduce mainstream audiences to traditional music and her last two albums - Full Circle and Time and Tide - have been stunning!

GiveWay - Full Steam Ahead (CD)

Amazing, all the songs are so great. Jiggin’ & Blue Bonnets O’er The Border are my favourites. :D

Fiona J MacKenzie - Duan Nollaig (A Gaelic Christmas) (2CD)

I met Fiona MacKenzie, a very accomplished Gaelic singer, when she sang at the world-famous Grandfather Mountain (North Carolina) Highland Games and later acted as judge at the North Carolina state Gaelic Mod.

The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band - On Home Ground vol 2 (CD)

when the fair was in town “the scottish store” from edmonton was there… im a Mcpherson and very proud of my heritage went straight to the kiosk to see if they offered any Mcpherson trinkets, after purchasing a cheaply made plaid scarf bearing my modern tartan, i remembered… i bought a tape in victoria of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band… I believe 2000 or 2001. i loved the tape and listened to it all the time. However, knowing how tapes and cd’s in other peoples cars go… it got lost.  So i asked the owner of “the scottish store” if he anything by SFU pipe band…the best pipeband in the world… he directed me to the section and there was one single cd left… on home ground vol 2. i grabbed it right away. i also purchased a cd from another pipeband so i could compare the two bands. seeing as SFU pipeband was the only pipeband i’ve ever heard, i thought it would be good to see how good you were in comparison. after listening to the entire cd i found macneills farwell was by far my favorite and envision getting married to the song. but its so long that i wouldnt know how to set my wedding up so the entire tune could be played… i cry nearly every time i hear the tune. thank you
