The Poozies - Yellow Like Sunshine (CD)

The Poozies began their career in 1990, after Patsy Seddon and Mary MacMaster - also known at the time as Scottish harp duo Sileas - had worked with singer Sally Barker on her second solo album. The Poozies have undergone lineup changes from time to time, but in 2009 their world turned full circle when original member Sally Barker rejoined the band.

Seventeen years down the line, The Poozies seem to have found the secret of eternal youth. Still with the three original members, they have been energised by the perfectly compatible addition of Eilidh Shaw and Mairearad Green, and remain as fresh and delightful as ever.

The Poozies' recipe is a fragrant casserole of inventive interpretations, creative collaborations and melodic mastery, saturated by the spice of open-mindedness with which they happily explore the musical universe.

In this inspirational band of women, the passion of Sally Barker's vivid voice is reinforced by the percussive power of her rock solid guitar. With irresistible energy bursts from Eilidh Shaw's faultless fiddle, the perfect precision of Patsy Seddon's shimmering harp intertwines with the magical melodies of Mairearad Green's delicately dextrous accordion, all grounded by the growing groove of Mary Macmaster's capacious Camac electro harp and rounded off by the blending of five different yet sympathetic voices in heart-wrenching harmony.

The band has enjoyed great success wherever they have travelled. This is largely due to the spirit of joy in their music, which is at their core, whatever changes are on the surface. The success of The Poozies is evidenced by their continued popularity with audiences throughout the world. They play to packed houses wherever they go and are constantly in demand at festivals throughout the summer months.

'Still a force to be reckoned with on the traditional folk scene... a brilliant album of fantastic vocal harmonies and spectacular instrumentals... amazing musicians and the tunes feature tightly interwoven fiddles, harps and accordion, backed by guitars and percussion... Yellow Like Sunshine is fresh and vibrant and destined to garner new generations of fans.' (Lori Gordon, Folk Radio UK)

Amazing, all the songs are so great. Jiggin’ & Blue Bonnets O’er The Border are my favourites. :D

Fiona J MacKenzie - Duan Nollaig (A Gaelic Christmas) (2CD)

I met Fiona MacKenzie, a very accomplished Gaelic singer, when she sang at the world-famous Grandfather Mountain (North Carolina) Highland Games and later acted as judge at the North Carolina state Gaelic Mod.

The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band - On Home Ground vol 2 (CD)

when the fair was in town “the scottish store” from edmonton was there… im a Mcpherson and very proud of my heritage went straight to the kiosk to see if they offered any Mcpherson trinkets, after purchasing a cheaply made plaid scarf bearing my modern tartan, i remembered… i bought a tape in victoria of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band… I believe 2000 or 2001. i loved the tape and listened to it all the time. However, knowing how tapes and cd’s in other peoples cars go… it got lost.  So i asked the owner of “the scottish store” if he anything by SFU pipe band…the best pipeband in the world… he directed me to the section and there was one single cd left… on home ground vol 2. i grabbed it right away. i also purchased a cd from another pipeband so i could compare the two bands. seeing as SFU pipeband was the only pipeband i’ve ever heard, i thought it would be good to see how good you were in comparison. after listening to the entire cd i found macneills farwell was by far my favorite and envision getting married to the song. but its so long that i wouldnt know how to set my wedding up so the entire tune could be played… i cry nearly every time i hear the tune. thank you
