Ex Runrig Star Signs to Scottish Label
Friday 20th January 2006

Ex-Runrig star Donnie Munro today announced that he has signed to Scottish-based record label Greentrax Recordings.

The singer, who tonight plays the hugely popular Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow, said he is delighted to be joining forces with the Scottish label, which over the years has grown in stature and range and is now one of the most prominent and credible of the home-grown record companies.

Munro said, from the Skye Studio of long time friend and producer Chris Harley where he is currently working on his new album scheduled for release in April:

"I am delighted to be signing to one of Scotland’s finest record companies and one which has played such a major role in developing and sustaining the industry here in Scotland. It is so important that we are able to create, sustain and develop an indigenous music industry to support the vast pool of talent which exists here in Scotland and that musicians, especially young emerging talent, can look to the support of a professional industry. Scotland’s musicians offer a wonderful platform for Scotland to project itself on the international stage and, for many people visiting Scotland, music has been their first point of contact."

Munro, who recently performed live to the nation from Edinburgh Castle at Hogmanay and to millions of TV viewers from Hampden Stadium during Scotland’s recent World Cup qualifiers, is delighted to be back in the studio and looking forward to working on what he thinks will be a very different album from much of his previous work, both with Runrig and as a solo artist.

He said he is approaching the work in a much more direct manner, with the songs at the centre of everything and looking for "just the right musical landscape to place them in."

He has collaborated on a couple of songs with two very different Skye based musicians: Blair Douglas, a former Runrig colleague, and young guitarist and writer Richard MacIntyre, whose band Stereoglo are currently being tipped for great things.

The Celtic Connections concert in Glasgow’s refurbished Fruitmarket follows on from his appearance at the Scottish Men concert earlier in the week.
